What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain Along With Weird Sensation In Head?

I have had severe abdominal pain for the past 6 weeks. It all started with a ruptured cyst and pelvic infection (however no cause was found to be the trigger). After ruling out STD s, bladder/kidney stones or cancer, diverticulitis, appendix, gallbladder and having a clean ultrasound of my uterus and ovaries, my urologist now believes that I have a lower back nerve problem that is radiating pain into my abdomen. Pain killers seem to offer no relief. The only way to make it better is to lie down for long periods of time. Car rides (especially those in vehicles that have very poor suspension) seem to trigger the worst pain. Once the abdominal pain sets in, I can barely function -- I am a middle school teacher and I have already missed 4 weeks of school due to this issue (starting with the ruptured cyst). I am a 45 year old female - 140 lbs, 5 4.5 . I have had 2 c-sections, one exploratory abdominal surgery (with removal of endometriosis and scar tissue) and surgery to repair a ruptured tubal pregnancy --- all surgeries in the 90 s. As a 2nd opinion, does this diagnosis sound plausible? I have noticed that my lower back seems to pop and crack ALOT more recently - especially if I am lying down and I try to turn over. I also often get a weird sensation in my head when the pain is acting up---- very similar to the sensation I would get in my head when I was in labor with my 2 kids. I know that sounds weird!! But would that indicate it might be a nerve issue?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the severe abdomen pain with history of 2 previous abdomen surgeries indicate most possible cause as adhesions formed in post operative period. However, many of the times, ultrasound will not be revealing any of the positive findings in this type of instances. I would recommend to discuss the need of a CT scan of the abdomen & pelvis for further diagnostic approach and guidelines accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
