Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sensation Of Drowning Upon Sleeping On One Side?
If I sleep on my left side eventually, I m assuming my lungs are filling up with fluid because I ll wake up and can t breathe. I feel the liquid, sometimes releasing it as if I were drowning. I have to sit up and it passes but it only happens lying on my left side.
I think that is not related to lungs filling up with fluid. But, I think you are having problem with acid reflux. The acidic stomach liquid is passing to your throat and most probably to your upper airways, which makes you coughing bad. To me, start taking antacids thrice daily. And be careful with food/drinks you take to avoid hyper-acidity of the stomach. Try to raise your head from the shoulders to alleviate the symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
