Hi Dear,

Thank you for writing in. completely understanding your concern.

As per your query your husband had colon surgery and after that he is having salty taste in mouth which is mainly because after treatment for cancer by chemotherapy or other agents the cell of gastrointestinal tract and those controlling taste gets damaged and it will take few weeks for them to resume taste in mouth. Once treatment ends completely these taste buds will resume taste.

I would suggest you to start with start rinsing your mouth with club soda before and after eating as it will improve your taste.

Chew sugarless candies or chew gum to enhance taste. Try having citrus fruits. Use vinegar in food if your husband don't have problem of soreness in mouth.

Try adding a bit of sugar on tongue.

Your husband's symptoms will resolve soon.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
