What Causes Round Bumps On Cervix And Brown Spotting During Periods?

Hello. I had an abnormal pap smear about 4 years ago and was supposed to have a biopsy to make sure it wasn t cancerous. I read about it and got scared and so I never went back. Since, I have had one normal pap smear so I figured it was just a fluke the first time. I am currently 27 years old and when I was 21 I was with a partner who said he had HPV but it was not the strain that caused genital warts. I have never experienced them. When I was in the shower today, I noticed a small, smooth, round bump on the opening of my cervix. I have also been having really weird periods. I have been bleeding between periods (brown spotting,) have bled after intercourse, and have recently had an increased amount of brown/mucous discharge. It has gotten so bad that I need to wear a tampon. When I take it out, I am also noticing what looks like uterine lining in the toilet after urination. I m not sure if it s a period (I currently am experiencing the discharge, though my last period was 2 weeks ago, lasted a week, and went away,) or if these are all symptoms from my Nexplanon which was implanted in October 2014. It s currently April 2015.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is important to get a cervical biopsy to evaluate the cause of the round bumps on your cervix and to follow up on the abnormal pap smear from 4 years ago. The brown spotting during periods and bleeding after intercourse could be caused by several things, including hormonal imbalances, infection, cervical polyps, or cervical cancer. It is important to see a healthcare provider to have a pelvic exam and discuss your symptoms and medical history. The healthcare provider may recommend additional testing, such as an ultrasound or biopsy, to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
