What Causes Roughness Of Skin On Palm And Hands?

I have very rough skin on the palm of my hands and I ve tried every home remedy I could find online. I ve spent more money than I can afford on products to soften my hands. It s very embarrassing and I m wondering if this is a medical condition. I don t believe my job is the reason as I ve had this problem for as long as I can remember or old enough to recognize that not everyone else s hands were like mine.

Hi,

The roughness of the skin on the palm and hands can be caused by several factors, including dry skin, exposure to harsh chemicals or irritants, and certain medical conditions. Your rough skin may be related to one or more of these factors.

It is important to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare provider, who can perform a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause of your rough skin and recommend appropriate treatment options. This may include topical creams or ointments to moisturize and soften the skin, as well as lifestyle modifications such as avoiding harsh chemicals or irritants and wearing gloves when necessary.

In the meantime, it may be helpful to prioritize self-care and skin care techniques, such as using a gentle soap and moisturizer, avoiding hot water and excessive use of hand sanitizer, and wearing gloves when performing tasks that may be harsh on the skin. It may also be helpful to maintain a healthy diet and hydration status to support overall skin health and well-being.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

There can be various causes for rough skin on the palms and hands. One of the most common causes is frequent hand washing and exposure to chemicals such as detergents and solvents, which can strip the skin of its natural oils and lead to dryness and roughness. Other potential causes include:
* Dehydration: Lack of hydration can lead to dry skin, including on the palms and hands.
* Weather: Exposure to extreme temperatures, especially cold weather, can cause dryness and roughness.
* Genetics: Some people may be predisposed to having naturally rough skin on their palms and hands.
* Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and fungal infections can cause dry, rough skin on the palms and hands.
* Nutritional deficiencies: A lack of certain vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc, can cause dry, rough skin.

If you have tried various home remedies and over-the-counter products without success, it may be worth consulting a dermatologist to rule out any underlying medical conditions or to get a prescription for a more potent moisturizer or medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
