What Causes Rise In PSA Level Post Radical Prostatectomy?

My PSA is rising after a radical prostectomy 4 1/2 years ago. There is a strong family history of prostate cancer including my father and 3 uncles. Is Metformin a good choice or is radiation a safer option. I m not sure if there is evidence that Metformin stops the spread of cancer.

dear friend

you have not specified what was your gleason score pre prostrate removal and what was your PSA levels at that time
were you checked out for metastasis initially
were there any during that time.
did you receive radiation or any other therapy at that time

Metformin in combination with Bicalutamide has shown significant effect both AR positive and AR negative cells. (AR meaning androgen receptor)

In AR-positive cells, this effect appeared to be mediated by reducing proliferation(Multiplication)rates, whereas in AR-negative cells the combination treatment appeared to promote apoptosis (is a process of programmed cell death that occurs in multicellular organisms. Biochemical events lead to characteristic cell changes (morphology) and death of the cell).

This combination drug regimen may improve prostate-cancer-specific survival by the direct antineoplastic properties outlined.

Evidence from a variety of studies suggests that metformin alone may delay or slow the progression of prostate cancer.

Hope this answers your doubts but if you are able to share the information i have asked afore i may be of a bit more help.

I find this answer helpful
