What Causes Right Ear Blockage And Spasms In Throat?

My right ear was recently blocked with wax to the point that I couldn t hear out of it. It made my left ear feel like it needed to pop. I spent about a good portion of a day & a half holding my nose shut & blowing out to unblock my left ear. Now my throat feels funny. I am having minor spasms in my throat muscles and feel like I am having difficulty swallowing so I haven t eaten. I should also mention that during this time oeriod, I had 3 panic attacks, 1 major, one minor. Did I possibly damage something & should I see a doctoror is this a lingering effect from the attacks? It s been 24 hrs since major and 12 hrs since minor. Appreciate your advice.

Hello,

You have not mentioned if this is the first time you are experiencing panic attacks or you had it before also. However, you are suggested to take rest and relax for a couple of days. Avoid stressful lifestyle. Stay cheerful. If you again get panic attacks then you need to get clinically examined by a GP and get the required investigations and imaging tests done. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you should rinse your mouth and gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day.

Take liquid diet and semi solid food like porridge, oats and khichri so that you get adequate nutrition and your throat does not hurt. If your ear is still blocked with wax then you are suggested to apply 3-4 drops of Otorex ear drops on the affected ear 2-3 times a day. The wax will get soft and start coming out. Wipe it with a soft cotton cloth, do not use toothpicks as it will hurt your ears. You can get it examined by an ENT, the wax will be removed and cleaned (it is a clinical procedure).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
