Sazo seems be to not effective in controlling the pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, so, you can start taking HCQ pill alone for the relief of pain in the rest of the pregnancy duration. Sazo (Sulfasalazine) is a Pregnancy Category B drug which can be taken safely during first and third trimester of pregnancy. However, it may cause kernicterus (a type of brain damage) that occurs in a newborn with severe jaundice if taken in the last trimester or at term. Sazo can displace bilirubin (a substance in the blood) from plasma protein albumin resulting in high levels of bilirubin which can spread into the brain tissues causing permanent brain damage. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) appears to be safe during pregnancy hence can continue to take after consulting your treating doctor.
