I have restless legs day and night my muscles in my legs hurt ALWAYS I have been given drugs mainly for verves like gabapentin I ve been told it is the same treatment. It is so bad sometime I have to go to bed for days I use to take norgesic forte about 15yrs ago I recently found 3 pills and being desperate I took 1/2 of a pill which seems to help almost as soon as I swallowed it. then yesterday I was headed down the same road so I took the other half it took the edge off but not all the pain but then this morning ...nothing... no pain can I take the drug with heart bypass 7mos ago. I d like to know before I ask my doctor for a prescription also my ins does not cover this drug that is why I stopped taking it. THANKS

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

In people with mild to moderate restless legs syndrome, lifestyle changes, such as beginning a regular exercise program, establishing regular sleep patterns, and eliminating or decreasing the use of caffeine, alcohol, andtobacco, may be helpful.

Also, some home remedies that may help include:

Leg massages, Hot baths or heating pads or ice packs applied to the legs, good sleep habits; medications may be helpful but are used only in severe cases and may be, Neupro, and Requip or benzodiazepines. Anticonvulsants, or antiseizure drugs, such as Tegretol, Lyrica or Neurontin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
