What Causes Repeated Urinary Urgency Every Night For A 70-year-old Man?

I am 70 years old, and up to about 4 months ago, I would routinely wake up to urinate once each night. I now have to get up three or four times a night to urinate. Also, I am experiencing increased thirst for water. What might be the problem? Thanks. My email address is: YYYY@YYYY

Hello Sir,
I read your concern.

Now, frequent urination at night is a major cause of concern specially in adults as it leads to disturbed sleep.
It is classically known as nocturia/polyuria when the person has to pass urine for more than one time at night.
Also , increased thirst is known as polydypsia.
So polydypsia and polyuria, as you are experiencing, may be classically seen in diabetes mellitus and Diabetes Insipidus. To Confirm or rule out these two conditions , you should get your blood sugar levels tested.

Other conditions which lead to increased urination at night and investigation required to confirm them are :
1. Benign Prostatic hyperpalsia( USG Abdomen)
2. Overactive bladder syndrome
3. Urinary tract infection (RE Urine)
4. Urinary Tuberculosis( USG)
5.Primary Polydypsia

Certain Drugs also lead to increased production of urine :
Lithium, Diuretics, Calcium Channel Antagonists, .So if you are takling these medications for any reason , kindly contact your physician.

I hope this answers your query.

Any follow up questions are welcome.
Thank you
