What Causes Release Of Blood Along With Urine?

My husband had robotic prostate removal after a GLEESON score of 8/9. After surgery his pas was 2.0 after 38 radiation treatments and Lupron shots every 3 months his psa score we to to 0.4 and then this June to 0.3.for the last 2 months once every 5 weeks he has urinated a small amount of blood with tiny pieces of some clotting the doctor told him to monitor it he has no pain or burning. Do u think he should have a series of tests now to determine the current problem he is 70 yrs old.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your husband having cancer of prostate, robotic surgery for removal, radiations, medications and now passing small amount of blood in urine wherein his Doctor as asked about observation.
Surely passing blood in urine after such a surgery and diagnosis is a cause of concern.
I would advise him the following in such a situation:
Consult an Urologist or a Cancer Specialist for clinical evaluation, examination and most importantly the investigations by doing MRI for the genitourinary system to know the cause.
Urethro-cystoscopy may be needed to confirm the cause.
All these things will lead to know the cause of blood in urine and have specific treatment.
Till then give him plenty of oral fluids orally.
See that he is not constipated, give stool softeners if needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
