What Causes Reduced Urine Output Post A Back Surgery?

I have taken Gentamicin and Rocephin by injection. I have also been given Levofloxacin to take once a day for 10 days. They think I have a urinary infection and I feel I do. The problem started last Friday, I have back surgery and after the operation I could not empty my bladder. Well I had to wear a bag until wed. morning. While wearing the bag it started filling with blood on Tuesday by Wed. it looked terrible. When the PA took the bag off my urine was extremly bloody, Yesterday(Thursday) I started getting a fever and last night it was 101.6. I went to see the PA this morning and she gave me these meds. Well after I got home and before I took the Levofloxacin I went to the bathroom and only urinated just a little, is this normal.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, reduced urine output post back surgery with a history of injection gentamicin (known to alter renal function in certain doses or cases with comorbidities ) can have many reasons as

- urine infection
- altered kidney function as a side effect of injection antibiotic
- low volume status as low water intake, vomiting loss or others
* Immediately consult your doc for further assistance without any delay.

Till that time, drink more liquids to form new urine in the kidneys.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
