What Causes Red Spot Above Left Areola?

I m 21 years old and I developed a red spot above my left areola last year. It s about the size of a quarter and round. I went to the doctor about it, but they couldn t give me any type of answer for what it is. I tried anti-fungal creams, but nothing. It does not feel warm, there is no lump, it does not hurt, but /occasionally/ it will itch a little, it hasn t gotten any bigger, and sometimes it goes away, but it always comes back. Any idea what this is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a red spot above the left areola. It may be just a pimple. It will go away with skin care products, if it is recurring it is concerning. It can also be atopic dermatitis, it can flare up, go into remission, and flare up again. If the red spot or pimple-like bump persists, it can be an early sign of IBC, inflammatory breast cancer. This type of breast cancer is aggressive.

IBC. appears commonly as a rash with swelling, itching, dimpling, and may cause changes to the nipple. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist or a GP. Get physical examination of your breasts done. Your treating doctor will tell you to do the required blood tests, ultrasound, mammography, etc. A biopsy, or tissue sample will be needed for further study to confirm a diagnosis of breast cancer or not. Do not neglect. Get it examined and evaluated so that it is treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
