Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi There, I just noticed a red, swallow lump just inside the top of my butt crack, closer to the small of my back than my anus. What could that be? It s a bit tender to the touch but far from excruciating. Should I sit tight and see what happens? Or get my rear to the doc ASAP? Thanks
I understand very well the concern you are talking about! That medical condition is seen mostly in young adults and is related with the area hairs that cannot get out called "Ingrown hairs" If it is just a hair or two it may cause forunculosis, a painful red lump that is easily healed by a topical cream for example (betamethasone + gentamicin).
If the lump is bigger, paiful, red, and feels like some kind of liquid is in it, then the condition is more severe and is called "pilonidal sinus", where a lot of hair and puss is inside. In this case it can't go away by topical creams but should be drained by incision.
If you are not sure what it is, you better go to the doctor and he will give you the proper advice.
Take care and all the best! DR ERIOL
