What Causes Red Rashes Around Mouth And Chin Area Despite Taking Benedryl?

I have a 20 year old daughter who is getting red blotches around her mouth and eyes. There is one on her chin as well. There are itchy at times and it has happened to her more than once. We first thought they were cold soars until it started appearing around the eyes and chin area. We thought of an allergic reaction and have taken benedryl which doesn't seem to help. It does seem to occur around her monthly cycle lately. What could be going on?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that rashes around the lips, spreading to chin and under the eyes seems to be due to Perioral Dermatitis..
It can be caused due to disturbances in microbial flora over the skin, bacterial infection,nasal and topical steroids, flouridated toothpastes, harsh chemical cosmetics, poor facial hygiene, hormonal imbalances etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise you to apply topically ointments containing Doxycycline, Metronidazole..
You can also be advised oral intake of erythromycin..
Ointments containing Azaelic acid,Pimecrolimus etc can help..
Avoid any skin cosmetic or steroid ointments..
Avoid excess sun exposure, use gel based sunscreen lotion..
