Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a strange, red bump on my lip. It doesn't resemble the beginning stages of a cold sore too much, as it is entirely red and does not look to be a blister. I have had growths here before but they have not become cold sores. I am pretty sure I have not come into contact with someone who has HSV-1 or 2, but I am honestly not sure what else it could be. It burns for a while, but only if I touch it. It is on the right side of my top lip.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Red bump on lip can be due to boil, hemangioma, or any other soft tissue lesion. Boil is an infectious lesion affecting skin. Hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor caused by proliferation of blood vessels. It is usually painless but it can be painful at times. Vesicles associated with Herpes simplex virus is usually vesicular, fluid filled and painful. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, diagnosis and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
