What Causes Recurring Symptoms Of Yeast Infection Post Intercourse?

i was negative for all stds.. and they told me i have bacteria vag and a yeast infection. i was treated for bv two weeks prior and had no more symptoms of smell or yellow discharge. i returned to the clinic with a white cottage cheese discharge and no smell, assuming i got yeast infection from the bv medication they gave me. this time they told me i had both, and gave me more antibiotics and told me to purchase monistat (7 day) otc cream. i used monistat for 7 days and took more antibiotics for the bv at the same time. everything seemed back to normal after a week and then my period came, once my period was over i had sex,and 3 days later im having the same early signs of a yeast infection. i am so frustrated and tired of going to the clinic. not sure if sex is causing this is the bv meds again. should i purchase more monistat? and am i allergic to penis?

Hello,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Healthcare Magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.

Bacterial and yeast infections are sexually transmitted infections. This means that you and your partner can pass the infection to each other during intercourse. In this case both of you need to be treated, because if not the infection will still be there. You are getting infection from your partner, you are not allergic to penis.
I recommend you that this time, both of you take Monistat cream for 7 days for yeast infection. Over the counter products intended to treat female yeast infections can also be effective for men. I recommend you to avoid intercourse until both of you are completely free of symptoms.
To prevent future infections keep the genital area dry and clean. Wash the genitals several times a day with water and dry with a clean towel before applying medication.

Hope I helped with my answer. For further concerns or follow up questions, feel free to write again, I will be pleased to answer you again.

Take care,
Dr. Artiona
