What Causes Recurring Swelling And Pain In Foot Post Injury?

About a week ago my foot got caught between the pedal of an elliptical and the base of the machine, the pedal kept rotating as my foot was caught. I could distinctly hear 3 loud cracks and my foot was pushed into the base of the elliptical. The ER Doctor said it was a high ankle sprain but my ankle doesn t hurt at all, there is also no bruising and minimal swelling all in my foot. The top of my foot is sensitive to the touch but other than that it just feels achy. The swelling comes and goes but th area where is swells there is no pain.
