You are reporting that your daughter: - female 17 years old - symptoms: on and off stomach cramps, black stools, throwing up Black stools are caused by the presence of the coagulated blood in the feces. This means that the blood comes from a bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract probably the stomach. The most common cause in these case is a bleeding stomach ulcer that causes the cramps and the black stool. I advise you to see a gastroenterologist to do a check up and further tests like upper endoscopy; colonoscopy, fecal analysis. Note that black stools and cramps can be also due food or any irritation of stomach mucosa. Tell the doctor what she eats usually or occasionally when the symptoms appear. If she is under a restricted diet, black stool should be taken as a sign of ulcer or other GI inflammatory disorders/diseases (IBD).
