What Causes Recurring Sinus Infection Despite Taking Antibiotics?

I have been fighting a sinus infection/head-cold for the last 12-16 weeks or so, its been almost gone several times and then comes back. I went to the doctor after the first illness and he prescribed me an antibiotic, then again about 4 weeks later when i got sick a second time. I thought that I was finally better about a week or so after the second round of antibiotics, and that literally lasted about 10 days, at which point the head-cold came back worse than ever before. I called the doctor and they again prescribed me another round of antibiotics that helped relieve the head-cold but didn't make me feel better, I've been done with the 10 days of antibiotics for about 5 days and now have a terrible stomach ache/nausea and mild diarrhea that has been present since the second to last day of the antibiotics. I have tried pep-bismal with limited results and actually felt pretty good one day and then terrible the last couple of days. I don't know what to do.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have a Chronic Sinus infection with recurring episodes of active symptoms..
Along with taking antibiotics you also need to take a course of anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or Tylenol, decongestants like Phenylephrine, anti allergics like Levocetrizine, mucolytics like Ambroxol..
Do steam inhalations, saline nasal irrigations and use a humidifier in your room..
You can use steroid nasal sprays..
Avoid chilled foods and air conditioned atmosphere..
In case if still the symptoms does not resolve you should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advised you PNS View x ray or MRI of the sinuses to rule out the exact reason for recurring symptoms..
He can also advise yo Endoscopic Sinus surgery in case if symptoms does not resolve with medications..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
