What Causes Recurring Severe Vertigo, Tinnitus And Hearing Loss?

Hello, I have recurring severe vertigo, tinnitus, swelling under the left side of my jaw, and hearing loss. I have received the diagnosis of Menniere s disease, but was also told it was a wastebasket term. My grandfather, mother and aunt all had surgery for otosclerosis. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling under your jaw suggests involvement of tonsil which can cause ear pain and deafness temporarily. Needful antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and anti allergic drugs would help. Family history of surgery for ear bone ossification needs consultation of ENT.
Meniere disease is internal ear involvement in allergy manifestations. ENT specialist would guide and help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
