What Causes Recurring Pain In The Groin Radiating To The Knee?

Hi, I have pain in the top inside of my leg (groin) and it goes down towards my knee. I had a knee replacement ther 6 years ago which has always hurt (scar tissue) . Could it be the saphenous nerve ? My leg often feels as if it falters when walking. A ex ray supposedly showed no damaged hip. Any ideas? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my view, it could be either nerve or blood vessel compression. The entrapment of Saphenous nerve produce symptoms like pain, weakness, tingling etc.

Although, the nerve compression can not be diagnosed by techniques like x-ray, clinical examination by a doctor can help diagnose it better. The treatment of Saphenous nerve entrapment vary from physical therapy for mild to moderate symptoms to surgical treatment for severe cases.

To rule out the cause as blood vessel compression various physical test and diagnostic test like ultrasound can be used.

I would suggest you get a physical examination done by a doctor as both of the above-mentioned causes cannot be detected on X-ray.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
