What Causes Recurring Episodes Of Chills, Fever And Diarrhoea?

My Dad has experienced about 4 episodes in past 18 months that have lasted 1-3 weeks each. Usually starts in evening with chills and fever around 100, has diarrhea, then vomiting (looks like bile). He has been to several specialists who have been unable to diagnose or help. Not really experiencing abdominal pain with current episode. He has had MRI s...first one showed a possible intestinal blockage....then second one did not show anything. Do you have anything to recommend?

Hi,

Is he absolutely fine in the period in between the episodes? For a better idea, I need reports of investigations done before. Fever, diarrhea and abdominal pain usually suggests a bowel infection, as in acute gastroenteritis, dysentery or typhoid fever. Reports of blood tests and stool tests done during illness will tell this.

If recurrent, we have to suspect food or water contamination, especially if other friends or family members are affected with similar complaints simultaneously. Kindly discuss with your doctor. Meanwhile, maintain strict food and water hygiene- hand washing with soap and water before food and after toilet use, use only boiled, packaged or RO filtered water for drinking, and avoid street foods.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
