What Causes Recurring Cough And Cold?

I had a cough for 4 weeks with no other symptoms. My doctor prescribed an antibiotic and the cough almost went away. However, it started again with a runny nose. This continued for another 3 weeks. I got another antibiotic, but it didn t do anything. I eventually began taking allergy medicine and the cough and runny nose went away. Now a 6 weeks or so later I have a similar cough with no other symptoms. Any ideas?
