What Causes Recurrent Pain In The Legs After Surgery For Stenosis?

I had surgery for stenosis In10/15 on l5-s1 and l4-l5 bilaterally. before the surgery I had numbness in the bottoms of both feet, left calf, problems with right thigh where a muscle had gone away and pain down the back of both legs. now I can feel the bottoms of both feet, ticklish but the toes are still numb. also now I have numbness in the shins of both legs and shooting pain down the front and sides of both legs and shins, calf s. Alsothe tops of both feet are numb. can I use gabapentin to alleviate the pain so I can sleep? One more thing, I feel pretty good by the time I wake up but it taqkes about 5 hours for the pain and spasms to calm down. I can do a couple of errands every day but the pain comes back with a vengeance to the point I can hardly walk.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is nothing but a neuropathic pain after spinal instrumentation.

As of now, you can take analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
