What Causes Recurrent Intense Pain In The Ankle And The Foot?

what might cause sudden sharp pain in a lower extremity. I can be laying still in bed, and out of no where a sharp pain occurs along a foot bone or foot tendon for one to two seconds, goes away and will happen again at random intervals. At first it was only in the early morning, 3-6 am, it now some times happens through out the day. Any ideas? Thanks, Brent

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

May I know your age? Sudden sharp pain could be due to vitamin D3 deficiency wherein there can be a pain in the lower extremities.

Also, it is advisable to consult an orthopedician to rule out any corns on the foot that could cause it along with vitamin D3 levels and calcium levels in the blood.

Any history of previous injury or fall should also be considered. As of now consulting an orthopaedician is very important.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Riyanka Chail, General & Family Physician
