What Causes Recurrent Burning Sensation In The Arm At Night?

My left hand falls asleep gradually but ends with severe burning in the whole hand. I need to get out of bed and walk the floor moving the arm. Usually takes approx. 1/2 hr before hand relawes, pain and burning gone, and am able to go back to sleep. I usually experience this one to two times, maybe three, a night. What can I do to stop this pain//burning more quickly. It is so severe it brings me to tears quite a bit. During daytime hours, occasionall, I have tingling and numbness and need to use/move the hand to start circulation. Is there anything I can do, during nighttime, to bring circulation back to the hand more quickly. Do you suggest a neurologist, pain management or something other. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurrent burning sensation in the arm at night . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query but it is possible that this itching may be due to thyroid problem . There are different types, the ones that may be involved are allergic or contact irritant due to some chemical or substance irritating the skin in this area it can also occur due to seborrheic dermatitis .You may need a stronger steroid cream. Soemtimes cervical spondylosis can also cause such problem . Avoid touching or pricking it with sharp object. If it is related to seborrheic dermatitis then a topical antifungal cream may also be needed. It can also occur due to neuropathy or nerve irritation. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. You should get complete examination done. Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
