What Causes Recurrent GERD Symptoms Post Surgery?

I had surgery for GERD 12 years ago and now have symptoms again and am on Medication. My gastroenterologist thinks the surgery is coming undone. Could there be a corrective surgery or should I stay on meds the rest of my life? Also, is there a new-type scope which can be insterted to check on things rather than the standard endoscopy where you are put under sedation?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a bout of gastritis. As first-line management, you can take antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole for symptomatic relief. Avoid spicy foods. If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
