What Causes Rashes On Back After Treating A Concussion?

My daughter received a concussion on Saturday which was confirmed by her doctor . One of the questions the doctor asked was if she had a rash and at the time she did not . About a half hour ago she did get a rash on the back of her hand and it does not itch but is slightly sensitive when touched? Should I take her back to urgent care tonight? Is this something I should be overly concerned about ?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

In my opinion the rash on her hand is not related to the head concussion. It may be indicative of a subcutaneous hematoma, probably related to a trauma in this region.

If she has pain in her hand, a hand X ray study may be necessary.
But, I do not think there is any need to go to the ER now.
I would just advise some rest and avoid any head trauma in the next weeks. If her situation does not improve or even worsens (strong headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion), I would recommend bringing her immediately to the ER for a new brain CT scan to exclude delayed subdural hemorrhage.

Hope to have been helpful to you!
Wishing all the best, Dr. Aida
