Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend is a 13 year old female who has always been chunky but gained 60 pounds rapidly after spinal fusion surgery (for scoliosis) and after a staph infection (needing a surgical cleanout and iv antibiotics). That was 2 years ago and now she has a constant headache and chronic fatigue along with insomnia. She has been diagnosed with anemia ( with no cause) and hereditary Hashimotos disease, but after she has been on the levothyroxine there is no improvement on her hair loss and hair/nail brittleness. She has not been able to attend school or live a normal life anymore, due to these debilitating symptoms. Please help

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ivo Ditah's Response
Hi,
I am so sorry to hear about what your friend is going through. With symptom of hypothyroidism persisting even after being on treatment it would be a nice idea to get her doses evaluated. The drug may not be able to correct the symptoms if the dose is not adjusted, Doing a test called TSH would be able to gauge the effectiveness of this medication.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
