What Causes Purple Swelling On Lips After An Injury?
I was playing hockey last night, and got in a fight and was punched square in the top lip. It was CRAZY swollen after about 15-20 minutes. The next day, the whole inside of my top lip is black, and a little bit purple around the edges. The swelling hasn t gone down at all (more like up) after 24 hours. What s wrong?
As per your symtoms it seems that due to trauma to the upper lip there is injury to the soft tissues leading to swelling and bruising of the mucosa..
As you did not mention that there is only discoloration and swelling or any laceration or cuts also over the lip..
If there is only bruises and swelling you can apply ice packs by placing ice cubes in a cloth and apply over your lips to reduce swelling and discomfort..
If there are any cuts or laceration cleaning with a betadine solution and can apply neosporin ointment.. in case of large open wound antibiotic regimen is also required to avoid any infection in the wound..
If there is pain you can take IBUPROFEN OR CALPOL can reduce pain and inflammation...
You should definitely consult a doctor to get clinically evaluated for whether the swelling may be due to Hematoma formation...
Wish you get well soon..
