What Causes Purple Discoloration On The Roof Of The Mouth?

Hi...I have just been getting ready for work and have had pain with build up of pressure feeling all morning in my tooth so I decided to take a look in my mouth. I have noticed that in the center of the roof of my mouth there is a dark purple/blue/black type bruise measuring around 2cm, it doesn't hurt but coming off the bruise is a white discolouration that goes to my gums/teeth either side at the back of my mouth. I have never had this before and am quite concerned about it. I have just booked in at the dentist and am getting seen next Wednesday I am just wurring now! Please can you help or give any advise?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your compliments it seems that there is severe inflammation of the roof of the mouth and in case if you also have pressure build up and pain around tooth, then it can be due to deep decay in tooth which can also cause inflammation..

I would therefore suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray of the tooth and oral swab culture has to be done to rule out the exact cause and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you should start taking anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and also do warm saline gargle..
Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash..
If there is pain on roof of mouth then gargle with numbing mouthwash like Lignocaine..
Also avoid spicy and hard foods..
Drink plenty of water..
