General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There can be various reasons for pulsating vein in neck such as:
- Age related physiologic appearance (from loss of subcutaneous fat pad)
- Carotid stenosis
- Developing thrombosis to some extent intra luminally in major neck veins
- Pressure from surrounding structures with tumor or other abnormality

If Doppler ultrasound for carotid and other neck arteries are available, it would be of great help to discuss further from this point.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
