What Causes Prominent Veins In A Nursing Mother?

I am a 42 year old female weighing 116 pounds and am still nursing my two year old. After my second pregnancy I developed varicose veins in my left leg. I noticed recently, that some veins on my body have become more visible, not hurting though. They are more pronounced in my arms it feels around my chest. I have been nursing my kids for about five years total and weigh less than before my pregnancies. Is it normal to develop more pronounced veins after more than two years after delivery?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The varicose vein can develop after delivery. Generally, it will settle in a couple of months after delivery.

In your case, as the varicose veins persist, it is better to go for surgical correction. Consult a general surgeon and plan for laser therapy or sclerotherapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
