What Causes Profuse Sweating Along With Burning Sensation In The Armpits?

A few days ago, I suddenly felt sick...I rarely do. Hot flashes, sweating. Very tired in waves. I suspect it was because I was exposed to molds and mildews/molds from trash I was taking to a dump from the flood. (Houston). I still feel the hot and exhaustion in waves but with something new and strange. Last night I felt like there was a burning sensation in one of my armpits. I felt around and it seemed there was a part that was mildly swollen. This morning I woke up to both armpits burning a bit, (on the surface of the skin-not terrible but irritating). If there was swelling, I didn t notice because the skin irritation overrode that as a priority. The skin looks normal. I used my wife s deodorant today. midday, my armpits began irritating me again. I m having the same hot, sweaty, exhausted spells. It seems like I feel better as the day proceeds, but in the morning, I feel awefull again. normally I would pass this off and wait for my body to heal itself, which I m sure it will do, but the armpit thing bothers me. These things could be completely unrelated and it could be that my illness has nothing to do with the trash in the first place. As for the armpits (deodorant) I have no allergies at all.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well, The amount of sweat considered normal is quite variable and depends on the demands of the body. Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, means that you sweat far more than your body needs you to sweat. For example, if you sweat while sitting calmly at your desk, that is excessive sweating. In hyperhidrosis, the body's cooling mechanism is so overactive that it produces four or five times the amount of sweat that you need. However, sometimes if sweating happens during the night or there is associated weight loss then it may indicate some more serious issues such as lymohima or hormonal imbalances. In every case, if this persist you should see internist first to do some tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
