What Causes Pressure And Pulsating Sensations In Ear?

What could be causing pressure and a heartbeat sound in my left ear. I also feel like I have head congestion all the time. I have some issues with my heart. I ve had a cardioversion done a month ago for afib. I also take 10mg of vasotec and 25mg of Tenormin bid. The doctor want me to take 5 mg ofCoumadin and Multaq 400 mg but I m afraid to take it because I have SS type sickle cell anemia and have had three blood transfusions in five weeks but my HGB will not get above 6.9- 7.3. Gave a stool sample but no sign of bleeding. My other question is what s causing the HGB from increasing?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a past history of SS type sickle cell anemia and cardioversion done. Now you are experiencing pressure and pulsating sensations in the ear. Side effects of certain medications like ACE inhibitors (Vasotec) used to lower the BP may cause ringing in the ears. Some patients have also reported side effects like tinnitus and hearing loss on taking Atenolol (beta blocker).

Do not stop taking any medication by yourself, you are suggested to inform the symptoms you are experiencing to your treating doctor so that the doses can be monitored or the medication replaced by other medicine that suits you better. If you have high BP you can control it to some extent naturally by switching to more healthy lifestyle. Cut on addictions if any (caffeine, alcohol, etc), reduce sodium intake, avoid salty snacks and food, loose weight, exercise regularly, take fruits, veggies, moringa, whole cereals, nuts, beans, seeds, etc.

Cause of hemoglobin % not improving can be nutritional deficiency (iron, vitamin B12, folate), bone marrow issues, loss of blood(colon, stomach ulcer, etc), side effects of medicines like NSAIDS, PPI's, iron blocker, etc. Get a complete medical check up done to detect the factor causing you the discomfort. Get treated. To improve Hb% you are suggested to take iron & folic acid rich food or supplements, increase vitamin C intake (take citrus fruits), pomegranate, bananas, green leafy vegetables, etc. Avoid stress. Stay cheerful.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
