What Causes Post Nasal Drip And Dryness At The Back Of The Tongue?

I have had this problem for a long time but it seems to be getting much worse. When I wake up in the morning and stand for just a few minutes it starts. I have post nasal drip. It feels like my throat is closing up. The back of my tounge starts getting dry feeling and the roof of my mouth also feels dry. When I bush my teeth I gag because it feels like my throat is closing off. It gets much worse through the day. By night I have shots of liquor to numb the pain. When I eat it helps for a few minutes. I chew gum and have throat logeners just to try to help the dryness feeling. Sometimes my neck on the right even feels tight. I have been to ENT s they only want to change my acid reflux meds. I have had allergy testing nothing big showed up just normal dust and little things. What could this be? I do have redness and the white spots on the back of my neck and tongue.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of post nasal drip and dryness at the back of the tongue which is due to upper respiratory tract infection as post nasal drip is clear indication of infection. It could be due to poor oral hygiene and fall back of secretions.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to gargle warm saline rinses as well as do beta-dine gargles. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take steam inhalation along with vaporizers. You should take sugar-free chew-gums to stimulate salivary flow. Visit ENT specialist once and get some routine blood investigation done. Go for proper examination and then start treatment accordingly. Avoid extreme spicy and salty food. Take diet rich in multivitamins. Take combination of antihistamine and oral antibiotic such as Bactoclav for 3 days.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
