What Causes Popping Sound In Right Ear And Fluid In The Left Side?

My right ear was vacuumed and cleaned with a curet (?sp)..instrument today by the Nurse practitioner at my ENT s office;I now have somewhat of a popping sound and some pain of and on..my left ear I was told had fluid in it. I have had tubes in my ears twice in my lifetime. Six (6) days ago I had to fly to Texas. The plane caused excruciating pain in my ears, felt like hot pokers in my ears. I couldn t get over the pain with my ears so I went in for the appointment today.Just wondering why my right ear could be feeling like this now that it s been cleaned out ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your right ear was vacuumed and cleaned by a nurse yesterday and presently you are having popping sound and pain. The left ear was diagnosed with fluid. You had excruciating pain on flight as you have history of having tubes in your ears. You are suggested not to take flights at present. Get clinically examined by an ENT to detect any eustachian tube dysfunction or ear infections, TMJ, etc.

You will be treated accordingly with antibiotics and analgesics. Middle ear infections may not require treatment if they self-resolve within 2-3 days but if recurrent they need treatment. Fluid accumulation in the left ear is indicative of AOM or CSOM. It is treated with antibiotics or corticosteroids if chronic to reduce fluid build up. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
