What Causes Popping Sensation Followed By Pain In Neck?

I woke up this morning moved my neck and there was a loud pop followed by intense pain it took me 30 minutes to get out of bed and I have been unable to move my head completely I cannot make any quick movement whatsoever without intense pain anything from opening a bag of crisp is causing pain and incredible stiffness.

It is possible that you may have spasm of one of the muscles in the neck.

This would cause the abnormal noise and intense pain that you are experiencing.

Treatment with involve: (1) warm compress to the area to encourage muscle relaxation
(2)pain medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam
(3)muscle relaxant such as soma, flexeril, robaxin

It can sometimes take a few days for improvement to occur.
