What Causes Popping Sensation And Severe Pain In The Ribs?

I was putting my two year old in his crib and heard a loud pop, felt a really sharp pain through my ribs and it almost felt like it popped out, my back hurt the next day doing anything but was still able to work and sleep, it is tender and painful though, went to store today and started feeling pain through my right side, abdomen and back, when I got home I layed on my back and put my arms over my head and heard a loud pop again, I did feel some relief from it, is it possible my rib was dislocated and just popped back in, and if so should I still see a doctor or just do home care, I feel okay I guess just a little painful now but not excurciating, also I ve had a punctured lung and it doesn t feel like that, should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would suggest that you practice the position of the arms (you already described), drink as much water you can, and avoid lifting weights or other physical stress for some days. If the pain is really big, try to take Ibuprofen (4-5) times a day. If the pain does not go away in maximumi 3-4 days, please go and check a doctor in the emergency department. I think the pain will go away, and it seems like all that are involved are some muscles, not the heart nor the pulmons. Good luck, take care and write me anytime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Eni
