He has almost completed 4 months.Still his weight is under 2.5kg only, but his activities are looks pretty good. His birth weight was 1.3Kg.He has only Brest feeding and have started Dexolac special care last 10 days. What would be the cause for slow weight gain? Is it normal or have to take any special attention? All of his activities are good only. Please suggest.

hi,
the weight gain newborn of preterm infant like your baby tend to steadily gain weight after 4 to 5 months of its birth and exclusive and frequent on demand feeding is always required for steady weight gain.No extra supplements are advisable unless your doctor has advised you, even water is not be given for first 6 months and exclusive breast feeding for 6 months to be given, can be continued till 1 year. It looks like your baby i on the normal course but it would be great if you consulted your paediatrician to check the development milestones and to keep in mind pre term infants tend to have lower weight at birth which can cause a slight delay in weight gain.hope my answer is of some help to you,
