I have a sore throat and and after effect of this is my left ear hurting with a piercing pain.I am not able to swallow and it seems that I am producing an excessive amount of saliva resulting in the feeling like I m drowning. Based on the information provided, can you tell me (guess) what is going on with me and possible line of defence? I am taking OTC claritan and pain pills and drinking lots of tea. Nothing is working.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Left ear pain could be due to ear infection. Since the throat and ear are connected, infection from either side can travel to other side. I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
