What Causes Persistent Pinworms In A Child Despite Taking Medication?
I have a four year old son with pinworms. He has taken two doses of Reese pinworm medicine. At first it seemed to help and his anus seemed clear but I have started seeing them again on his anus at night before he goes to bed. They dont appear to be moving so maybe they are making there way out dead. I am careful and wipe them away and wash hands well after. I m not sure what to do to fully rid him of them. Should I give him a different medicine? I also have a son under 18 months that now has them and trying to eliminate with good hygiene practices. What should I do?
Treatment for pinworms may be challenging as they are very infectious. To increase the chance of eradicating the infection all the family members should take the treatment at the same time. So, both your sons and everyone else in the family (including you and the rest-even though you do not think you have the infection) should take the treatment at the same time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
