What Causes Persistent Pain On The Lower Back?

I have persistent pain on both sides of my back, not lower back, however more where the ribs end. The muscle tissue radiates pain. Was blaming it on lifting to heavy of an object, however it wont go away. had 3 acupuncture treatments, still have the on going pain. Have used heat pad and ice. I am 71 weigh 117 lbs and 5 feet 1 inches tall. Very active, not used to pain. Nancy

This type of pain is in most cases caused by compressioon of spinal canal usually by discus and this is called discus hernia. You should do MRI scan of this spinal segmen tin lumbar area to rule this out. It can be treated by medications and exercises in the beginning but in late phases, surgery may be required.
