What Causes Persistent Pain In Thumb And Wrist Post Wasp Sting?

A week ago I had a wasp sting on my hand below my thump at my wrist. The swelling went down but a red streak started down my arm. Day 3 went to E.R. they said I had cellulitis and gave me steroid, antibiotics. Now day 7 since the sting my joint in my thumb and wrist have begun to ache. Should I soak in warm Epsom salt bath, ice or is this a reaction to a weeks worth of antibiotics?

Hello,

No, it is not a reaction to the antibiotics prescribed by your treating doctor. Since you have been diagnosed with cellulitis after the wasp bite and now have joint pain in the thumb and wrist, it looks like the infection is spreading. You can apply ice packs, it should ease your discomfort. Apply a moisturizer or calamine lotion / Soframycin lotion to get relief. To get rid of the pain you can take NSAIDS, Combiflam, one SOS when pain. You are suggested to visit ER or a GP and get clinically examined.

To help better and faster healing you should be treated with antibiotics and analgesics via intravenous route. To fight infection you need antibiotics (Augmentin), do not neglect. Get treated. Cellulitis sometimes lead to serious issues like amputation. Do not scratch or touch. Maintain your hygiene so that the infection gets controlled, get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
