What Causes Persistent Pain In The Calf?

My right calf hurts when I touch it. A bit red, warm in spots to the touch. When I lay down or elevate the leg the pain subsides. As soon as I get up to stand or just put my leg over the side of the bed when I get up the pain starts. This has been going on for about 1 week. I am a 67 yr old female.

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. I would bet on the fact that you have a DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis) or a clot in your leg. You describe almost text book presentation. Please note that this may come on for a variety of reasons, commonly trauma to the leg, long transatlantic flight/long car rides across 2 time zones or for those who have a propensity to easily clot. You will need an US of your legs to rule this out. Please seek an appointment as this condition.
