What Causes Persistent Itching In Throat And Cough?

I have an itchy throat that causes me to cough. When I cough, I usually end up regurgitating. It occurs usually after I ve drunk something ( water, soda, whatever). I have no fever, no headaches, no signs of a cold, just a persistent itch in my throat that causes me to cough. I ve had this problem for over 4 weeks and it s gotten better, my throat would itch all day causing me to cough and gag. Now it s more like after I eat or drink, mainly drink something.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent itching in throat and cough. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like acid reflux, sore throat (viral or bacterial) , post nasal drip and granular pharyngitis.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day and you should avoid eating spicy and heavy food. Avoid intake of cold liquids, avoid smoking if you do and rest properly. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order test like swab test, blood test and perform physical examination with laryngoscope. Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants and cough expectorants. Keep your head elevated while sleeping and do not lay on bed immediately after having food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
