What Causes Persistent Hiccups And Black Stools?

My husband has had persistant hiccups, very deep and intense ones for about a week. If he takes pepto bismal or alkaselzer or eat something they go away for a bit. They seem to be excacerbated by drinking anything carbonated. Today he has had hiccups for probably 12 hours. We just got back from Cabo san Lucus and he was experiencing some black stools that lasted a couple days and he began having normal formed stools that were brown in color. Now today he mentioned his stools are darker again. Thank you, YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to multiple reasons.

For further assessment you may require Colonoscopy, complete hemogram, stool analysis after gastroenterologist consultation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition.

You may require iron tablets after consultation.

Keep your self hydrated

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
