What Causes Persistent Headache, Abdominal Cramps And Fatigue?

The past month my 10 year old has been complaining about headaches, nausea, stomach cramps, tiredeness, and lack of energy. Had him tested for thyroid, diabetes, had an abdominal ultrasound, tested his urine, and iron levels. All results came back normal. He says it s worse (nausea and tired) after drinking warm fluids or physical activity. I have had him at 2 Dr appointments but no answers. I need yo help my son but don t know what to do anymore.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If all blood, urine and stool tests are negative, his appetite is good, no chills or fevers then I would say most likely gastritis or duodenitis from soft drinks or spices or raw nuts etc. AVOID all gut irritants, use small frequent soft well cooked meals and see how he does for three days. If no better and pushing on the abdomen causes no pain then that most likely is not the issue. use physiological saline (0.9%) instead of water and if he does not react to that but does react to water then most likely is gastritis and he should have pain in the area of his belly just above the belly button. Then you should use antacids like maalox, gavascon and miralax to keep his bowels moving. If still unsure see your GI doctor for an endoscopy to be sure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
