What Causes Persistent Discharge And Recurrent Itchiness From Thrush Diagnosed 6 Months Back?

I have had thrush for around 6mths now, after going on antibiotics for a sinus infection. Since then, I’ve been treated with a topical cream, an oral fluconazole, 2x6 day courses of pessaries and 3x oral fluconazoles, taken a week apart. Whilst, after treatment, the discharge and itchiness died down, the discharge has never fully disappeared and within a few days is noticeable again. Also, the itchiness begins to return after around a week.

Hi,

The infection you got after antibiotic course seems to be due to disturbance of protective bacteria (lactobacilli). Due to this, the pathogen gets a chance to infection your body. To get full relief, the organism needs to be removed enroot. For this
-Need to take sufficient repeated oral pills / local pessaries
- Genital hygiene needs to be perfect
- Oral and vaginal pessaries of lactobacillus would enhance relief
Simultaneous treatment of spouse is needed in sexually active patient.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

You seem to have chronic sinus infection with secondary fungal infection which has given result to oral Fluconazole and recurred after few days of withdrawing the medicine. I would suggest to consult an ENT specialist, get a nasal swab testing done to get culture and sensitivity result of the fungus. You should start with specific suitable medicine for sufficiently long time along with specific treatment to clean sinus with medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
